Platte County Wyomingby Tom AshworthIn section 22 T25N R66W, in the pre-Cambrian rocks there was an old lode mine that produced gold and silver. UvaArea exposures of the Arikaree formation the sands contain finely disseminated gold. WheatlandSouthwest of Wheatland 10 miles, in the Cooney Hills, in section 20 T23N R69W, is the Cooney Hill Prospect, which was primarily a low grade copper prospect with gold traces. Southwest 15 miles, on the south side of the Cooney Hills, is the Whippoorwill Claim, which produced lode gold with copper and silver. West 22 miles on Slate Creek is the Independence Group of Mines which produced minor amounts of gold. |
