Thought this was kinda strange but very cool to find, especially in a park playground under the platform so close to those dang pipes that are so hard to detect next to. This time I listened harder and swung that coil under there and heard that broken signal that wasn't the pipe but wasn't quite right. I hit pinpoint and there it was under a couple inches of chips. It had been there long enough to get discolored and lose that gold shine like the Sac dollars do.
I'm really enjoying this winter metal detecting, timing is everything, hit it before the rain and the kids get there to ruin it.
Keep yer coil to the soil, Doug

Great find Doug, I know how you felt. I was detecting around a I guess you'd call a jungle jim, monkey bars... somethng like that lol and kept getting a signal and would dig and leave and it just kept nawwing at me and on the last attempt.......... A real nice 1905 Quarter decided to show itself to me. I was never sure if I was picking up the legs going into the ground or if it was a real signal but it just shows. it pays to at least try to dig it up even if you think there's nothing there...............

Some years back before all these fancy multi audio sounds we injoy these days - infact before VLF ground ballancing. I owned a Whites 4DB discriminating detector ( I beleave it was one of their first discriminators) I was hunting a small park up against a back stop for a ball field. The metal back stop was really messing with my detector, but I kept thinking I could hear another sound besides the post. I could not pinpoint so I just dug and about six inchs down I found a 1912 Barber Half Dollar. How I could hear both objects at the same time I have no idea, but I could.
